Privacy Policy

Last updated: [Effective date — set at launch]

DRAFT for review. Written from what the HauzSync app and server actually collect today. It isn’t legal advice; please have it checked before launch. Items in highlighted brackets still need a decision.

HauzSync (“HauzSync”, “we”, “us”) is operated by [Legal entity name and ABN — to be confirmed]. This policy explains how we handle personal information when you use the HauzSync iPhone app, the hauzsync.com website and related services (the “Service”). We handle personal information in line with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).

Information collected automatically

We don’t use advertising identifiers, and the app doesn’t track you across other companies’ apps or websites. [Confirm before launch: whether the Better Auth “infra/dash” plugin sends any data to Better Auth, and list it here if so]

Camera and photos

The app asks for camera or photo library access only when you choose to attach a photo to a task, an expense or your profile. Only the photos you pick are uploaded.

3. How we use it

4. Who can see your information

Other household members. When you are in Household mode, the tasks, expenses, settlements, lists, basket items, bills and chat messages you add are visible to every member of that household, along with your name and profile photo. Anyone who has your household’s join code can join it, so only share it with people you trust. Household owners and admins can remove members.

Service providers. We use a small number of providers to run the Service. They process information only on our behalf:

When the app converts between currencies, it fetches exchange rates from the Frankfurter public API. That request includes the two currency codes and your device’s IP address, but no account details.

Legal reasons. We may disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights, property or safety of our users or others.

We don’t sell, rent or trade personal information.

5. Overseas disclosure

Some of our providers store or process information outside Australia, including in the United States and Japan (see the table above). We take reasonable steps under APP 8 to make sure these providers handle personal information consistently with the APPs.

6. Storage, security and retention

7. Your choices and rights

8. Children

HauzSync is designed for households, which may include teenagers. It isn’t directed at children under [13 / 16 — decide], and they shouldn’t create an account without a parent or guardian’s involvement. If you think a child has given us personal information without consent, contact us and we’ll delete it.

9. Data breaches

If a data breach is likely to cause serious harm, we will notify affected users and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) as required by the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme.

10. Changes to this policy

We’ll post any changes on this page and update the date at the top. If a change is significant, we’ll also tell you in the app or by email.

11. Contact and complaints

For privacy questions, requests or complaints, email hello@hauzsync.com. We aim to respond within 30 days. If you’re not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
